The 2.4 hectare “Althan Quartier” is one step closer to completion. Last Tuesday, 17 October 2023, saw the topping out ceremony for the eleven-storey residential building “JOSEPH”. The ceremony was celebrated with the general contractor Swietelsky and numerous attending guests.

Real estate developers 6B47 are planning to construct the “Althan Quartier” on a 2.4 hectare site at the local city centre above Franz-Joseph Station in Vienna Alsergrund, due for completion by the end of 2024. It comprises the projects SOPHIE, JOSEPH, FRANCIS and the Arcotel Hotel AQ as well as a multi-storey car park and it will create 77,000 square metres of usable space for flats, offices, retail outlets, hotel and restaurants. After SOPHIE, JOSEPH is the second residential building that will be completed by 6B47 in Vienna Alsergrund.

At the topping out ceremony, authorised representative Christian Großschartner, Head of Project Development for the 6B47 Group in Austria, and Thomas Kleiner, Divisional Manager of Swietelsky AG, addressed the assembled guests.

“The ‘Althan Quartier’ is characterised by its multifacted mix of uses. Besides its outstanding residential comfort, the USPs of the JOSEPH project also include its 360° view from the top floors of this eleven-storey building. The superb infrastructure, extensive range of restaurants and connections to the city centre and the local recreation area, the ‘Danube Canal Cycleway’, together form the perfect complement to what this modern urban quarter has to offer,” Christian Großschartner commented.

The JOSEPH residential building

The JOSEPH residential building is under construction in Nordbergstraße in Vienna’s Alsergrund district and, along with the neighbouring SOPHIE residential project, it is one of two residential buildings planned for this urban quarter. The JOSEPH high-rise comprises 6,700 square metres of usable space and consists of 107 modern apartments as well as spacious communal areas such as shared office spaces. The building is pre-certified to the ÖGNI sustainability certificate in Gold and is due for completion in Q1 2024.

The “Althan Quartier”

A modern urban quarter is taking shape on the site of Franz-Josef station in Vienna’s 9th district. On an area totalling around 40,000 square meters, the “Althan Quartier” will in future offer space for offices, retail, gastronomy, leisure and cultural events, as well as luxury apartments, hotel rooms and parking facilities. By opening the site up to residents and visitors, 6B47 is creating urban meeting points and a vibrant urban neighbourhood at one of Vienna's traditionally important transport hubs.
